I wasn’t sure I would make a blog post today, since the majority of my day was spent driving home. But how could I pass up posting about my last morning walk and delicious breakfast in Québec?

I spent the day today surrounded by farmlands, vineyards, and waterfalls. Just a 15-minute drive from downtown Québec lies Île d’Orléans, a 74 square mile island in the St. Lawrence River that feels worlds away from the crowds of Old Québec.

They say a couple of days is plenty of time to see the highlights of Québec and I would agree. I’ve been here for a day and a half and I feel like I’ve seen most of what I came here to see.

Bonjour from North America’s most European city: Québec! For years, I have been wanting to explore and photograph Old Québec, and this is the week!

For a day where I had absolutely nothing planned, it turned into a pretty good day, visiting the Killick coast, shopping, and indulging in some good food.

Whenever I waver about going out for sunrise at home, I remind myself that some of the best sunrises are mornings where I don’t have high expectations. Such was the case this morning when I saw a wall of clouds heading toward the horizon around 5AM. Today I took a drive along part of Newfoundland’s Irish Loop (named for the many Irish immigrants to Newfoundland) from St. John’s to Ferryland and back.

Two words: gelato flight. Two more words: iceberg cider. My day today revolved around hiking, history, and food.

Today was Regatta Day in St. John’s. On the first Wednesday in August, shops and businesses close for the day and the whole city heads to Quidi Vidi Lake for the annual Royal St. John’s Regatta. Do you want to guess where I spent my morning?

Welcome to “The Rock”. Or Newfoundland, as it’s more commonly known. Newfoundland (technically, Newfoundland and Labrador) is Canada’s easternmost province, located some 900+ miles from Boston as the crow flies. My route today was a bit more circuitous, taking me first to Montreal, then on to St. John’s, where I’ll be spending the next 6 days exploring this rugged province.
