New York City 2026: Day 3

I had one last morning in the Big Apple, and I’ll be honest: I didn’t love Sunday Morning. Not the day of the week, but the viral cinnamon roll bakery in New York City. Yes, you read that correctly. It’s a bakery that sells nothing but cinnamon rolls, and the display case is filled with up to 10 flavors each day. It was my final stop before heading home from the city, and I wasn’t wowed.

Sunday Morning

I saw Sunday Morning in a YouTube video, and a quick Google search showed how popular it is, having even been featured on CBS Mornings. After waiting outside for a half hour before they opened (yes, a line formed behind me – I was the first one there at 8:30), I selected a classic cream cheese and a decadent-looking blueberry lemon curd, along with an iced latte. $25 seemed pretty steep for a couple of cinnamon rolls, but I knew going in these were not your typical cinnamon rolls. I took my cinnamon rolls to Madison Square Park for an al fresco breakfast. I took a few pictures, cut off a big bite with plenty of cream cheese frosting, and… well, that was underwhelming. I don’t know what I was expecting but this definitely didn’t live up to the hype (in my opinion).  I ate all of the classic roll and maybe half of the blueberry.

I took some pictures of the hydrangeas in Madison Square Park and then hightailed it back to my hotel and grabbed my suitcase in time to make the 10:34AM train back to New Haven.

I have wanted to stop at Arrigoni Winery and Cider Company in Portland, Connecticut for a while now, but my timing is never right when I’m in the area. Today was the day. The winery/cidery is set in an odd gift shop-y building but there is a massive outdoor area next to the vineyard with abundant seating options. I was thinking I would like the vanilla cider, but after a small sample, I actually preferred their signature cider and got a glass of that. I sat outside with my book and enjoyed the partly sunny (albeit humid) afternoon. I’m glad I was finally able to get to the cidery, though I don’t know that I liked it enough to go back.

All in all, it was a fun couple of days in New York City. I’ll probably never be a city person but I have learned to enjoy cities in small doses, and New York is an easy trip with plenty of things to keep me busy for a few days.
