Breathtaking. I can’t think of a better way to describe my first impressions of the Wachau Valley. I spent the day making my way from Vienna to Dürnstein, my home base for the next five nights. And the scenery along the way was nothing short of spectacular.
Considering I woke up this morning with almost no plans for the day, it ended up being a pretty good day in Vienna.
Slovakia was not high on my travel bucket list, but when I learned that Bratislava is only an hour away from Vienna by train and is often a recommended day trip, I knew it would be part of my itinerary for this trip.
I only did three big things today, with some mid-afternoon rest thrown in, but they were all amazing.
Despite how tired I was, I made it until 8PM last night before I crashed and slept until almost 6:30 this morning. I could probably have slept longer, but Vienna was calling!
I love Vienna. I mean, I really only walked around for an hour or so, but I already love it. The history, the architecture, the culture… I can’t wait to explore more in the coming days!
I did very little on my last day in Oregon. I hadn’t yet been to Voodoo Doughnut, and although I know they aren’t the best donuts in the city, I still wanted to visit the iconic pink-trimmed building in Old Town for a breakfast treat. I walked over from my hotel and with no early morning line yet, I was able to walk right up to the takeout window and get my donuts (a buttermilk bar and a “Viscous Hibiscus”).

Did you know that one of the most iconic active volcanoes in the United States is less than 100 miles from Portland, Oregon? Mount St. Helens last erupted in 1980, but the effects of that eruption are still visible today. Don’t worry… the volcano didn’t erupt while I was there!
I’m back! Let’s just say that what I thought was allergies wasn’t allergies after all and I’ve spent the last few days by myself in my hotel room. I was finally able to get outside yesterday and today and I’m determined to make the best of my extra few days in Oregon.
