You can see Devils Tower from miles away. Literally. Devils Tower rises over 1,200 feet from the Belle Fourche River, is 867 feet tall, and was my morning destination today.

I love South Dakota. This morning, I woke up early, got ready, and walked into town. The sun was shining (briefly) as I settled into what is already my favorite Spearfish breakfast spot, Blackbird Espresso. I’m sure I’ll be back again for another breakfast before I leave. I spent the rest of the day exploring Spearfish Canyon and a couple of local attractions in Spearfish.
Continue reading“South Dakota? Why South Dakota?” That is the question just about everyone has asked when I’ve shared my summer vacation plans. Truthfully, I was inspired by “The Awkward Tourists”, a YouTube couple I follow who spent a couple of days here on a road trip. When I watched their videos, I thought, “Why have I never been to South Dakota?”. And so, here I am!

I’ve been saying for the last several years that I’m going to take a summer day trip to Block Island and this is the year I finally made it happen. I have been to Block Island once before, when I was quite young, but I don’t really have any memories of it so this felt like my very first visit to the island. Block Island is situated about 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island and is about 7 miles long and 3 miles wide.

The Great Staycation of 2023. That’s how I’ve been referring to this weekend in my mind. Now that I have a new baby niece down in Florida, most of my weekend trips have been/will be spent there. But having just been in Florida a few weeks ago, and going back there for Thanksgiving, I needed something to do for the long Veterans Day weekend. Enter the staycation.

It’s about a 2 hour drive from Vancouver to Whistler. It took me exactly 13 hours to make the trip today. Why so long? Read on to find out!

Starting off summer vacation with a trip to New York City is becoming something of a tradition for me. Two days was plenty of time to explore the city and see a few of the sights on my list. And of course, enjoy some delicious food while I was there!

Duluth, Georgia. Not exactly on my bucket list, but there is a reason for my second visit to this northeast suburb of Atlanta. The Gas South Arena played host to this year’s SEC Gymnastics Championships and it was the perfect place for my March stop in the Year of Travel.

Live a great story. That’s my motto for 2023; to have a great story to tell about how I spent the 365 days of 2023. And how can I tell a great story without a lot of travel? Back in 2018, I did a “Year of Travel”, where I traveled somewhere every month of the year. I’m planning to make 2023 another Year of Travel and my first stop was none other than America’s oldest city, St. Augustine, Florida.
