Day 3 of going into Boston and today I tossed tea into Boston Harbor. Well, not real tea. And not actually into the water. But I reenacted the Boston Tea Party at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. I also had a yummy breakfast and drank a flight of cider, all while attempting to survive the high heat and humidity in the city.

I kid you not when I say that I spent at least half an hour last night trying to find a breakfast restaurant for today. I looked at several that would have been fine, but when I stumbled on the menu for Cafe Luna in Cambridge, I immediately knew that is where I would be breakfasting today. Both the service and the food were outstanding. I mean, how can you go wrong with lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh berries, mascarpone, and whipped cream? You can’t.

After my filling breakfast, I headed back to the T, took the subway to South Station, and walked to the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. I was happy to learn the museum offers free admission to teachers and took full advantage of the $41 deal. You can only tour the museum on a guided tour but I was able to get on a tour almost immediately and proudly slipped into my role to agree that yes, I was very upset about the tax on tea. The “museum” is more like a guided reenactment (yes, I did try my hand at throwing the tea overboard!) and my one complaint was that the guides started talking in the next space before half the group had even gotten there. It was neat to see in a “been there, done that” kind of way.

Next stop: cider! I have always wanted to visit Downeast Cider House in East Boston but it’s not so easy to get to and I just haven’t made the effort to get there. Today was the day. I took the blue line to Maverick and walked the half-mile to the cider house, where I enjoyed a flight of “Drier Side”, rosé, and peach mango cider, along with a hard pink lemonade. The pink lemonade was so good, I would have bought some to bring home while I was there if they had it in stock. But good news… I found it at the local liquor store so I’m all set!

It was HOT in the city today and though I had planned to eat a meal, I wasn’t really hungry enough to eat. I ended up walking along the water through Piers Park and then headed back into Boston proper. I stopped at Star Market to pick up a yogurt and ate it watching the traffic come and go from the city overlooking the Zakim Bridge. I then took the 3:30PM train back to Beverly where I promptly jumped in the pool to cool off. I enjoyed a bowl of cereal for dinner (my favorite hot weather meal!) and capped off my weekend with some chocolate soft serve from my favorite local ice cream shop. Taking the train into the city three days in a row got a bit tiring, but I enjoyed being “on vacation” while getting to sleep in my own bed every night!
