Italy 2024: Day 7

People think I’m crazy for going all the way to Italy for six days, but you know what? We only have so many tomorrows, and I’m determined to make the most of all the ones I have. And six days in Italy is better than no days in Italy.

Ponte Vecchio, Florence

Enough philosophy for now. Did you think I was completely done with Florence yesterday? Not so fast… I was able to squeeze in a sunrise walk around the city before leaving for the airport this morning. I love watching the world wake up and Florence gave me the chance to do that one more time. I walked over to the Arno River, meandered through Oltrarno, crossed the Ponte Vecchio, marveled at the Duomo, and had a waffle and hot chocolate in a tiny cafe, all while my fellow travelers were probably still in bed.

Then it was off to the airport for the journey home. My flight to Amsterdam was delayed about 40 minutes. Not a huge deal normally, but a pretty big deal when you only have a one hour connection for an international flight. We made up a little time in the air and by the time the plane landed, we got bussed to the terminal, I got through passport control, and I speed-walked to my gate to Boston, it was about 15 minutes before takeoff and the flight was just closing. At least I made it. Sadly, my luggage did not. I had an email waiting for me when I landed in Boston telling me that Delta is committed to reuniting me with my luggage as soon as possible. My bag flew home on a KLM flight tonight and I can look forward to my reunion with it tomorrow when it gets delivered to my door.

Arrivederci, Italia!
Hello, (Rainy) Amsterdam!
Delta One

I will never not be amazed by travel. This morning I was walking the streets of Florence, and this afternoon I was walking the aisles of my local grocery store. This trip will be memorable not for any one big thing, but for all the small moments that made up each day. Until the next adventure…
