Vancouver 2023: Day 7 (Squamish)

It was another smoky morning in Whistler so my plans to ride the Peak to Peak gondola in Whistler never materialized on this trip.

I started the day with breakfast at Stonesedge Kitchen near my hotel. It was on my list of places to eat but I’m not exactly sure why since nothing on the menu really stood out to me. I ordered “thick cut” French toast and was left feeling underwhelmed.

Without much else to see in Whistler, I decided to start heading back to Vancouver and find some places to stop along the way. The air is so smoky you couldn’t even see the mountain towering over the Tantalus Lookout!

Until a few days ago, I didn’t know that one of my favorite Netflix series, “Virgin River”, was partly filmed in Squamish, British Columbia. Clearly, I needed to stop and see Jack’s Bar (actually the Watershed Grille) since it was right near me! The haze takes away from the Virgin (Squamish) River, but it was still fun to stop and see it.

I wandered around downtown Squamish before stopping at Geo Cider for a cider and some tacos. The cider was a little dry for my taste, but the tacos had a great kick of flavor.

Next stop: dessert. I had wanted to try a chimney cake from Praguery at the base of the Sea to Sky Gondola the other day but wasn’t in the mood for it. I made up for it today… yum!

After my stop in Squamish, I pretty much just sat in traffic for 3 hours back to Vancouver. I’m staying near the airport tonight as I need to be up very early in the morning for my flight(s) home.
