Smoke, smoke, smoke. I woke up to cloudy/smoky skies in Whistler this morning and there was a strong smell of forest fire smoke in the air from fires burning in British Columbia. I was planning to do the Whistler Blackcomb Peak to Peak gondola this morning but ended up changing my plans because the air was so smoky.

Instead I took a walk around Whistler Village and went out for a late (for me) breakfast at Hunter Gather. A few of the breakfast places in the village had lines and seemed crowded but Hunter Gather is at the edge of the village and had plenty of seats. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. I had a seat on the patio and was able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast of pulled pork eggs Benedict with a potato croquette and a mimosa. It’s never too early to start drinking when you’re on vacation!

Since the air didn’t show signs of clearing, I decided to go for a walk. I headed in the direction of Lost Lake (about 2 miles from the village center), found a nature trail to follow for a while, circled the lake, then headed back into town.

An iced mocha from Blenz filled me up as did a cider by the pool, where I spent the remainder of the afternoon. Dinner was at Pizzeria Antico, where I had a Quattro Formaggi pizza with prosciutto. The waitress warned me that the pizza was very “blue cheese forward”, but failed to mention it was also very “garlic forward”. After dinner, I enjoyed a salted caramel whoopie pie from locally popular Purebread that I bought earlier in the day.
