Austria 2022: Day 11 (Dürnstein to Vienna)

Am I ready to go home? Yes. But was I also ready to enjoy one last day in Austria? Yes, again. Vacation is definitely winding down and today I headed back to Vienna.

Vienna

I left my hotel in Dürnstein mid-morning for the hour’s drive back to Vienna. After dropping off the rental car and leaving my luggage at the airport hotel, I took a train into the city center. I had just a couple of things I wanted to do in the city, the first of which was a concert at St. Peter’s Church. I had seen the program online and immediately put it on my agenda. The 3PM organ concert was accompanied by the Korea Youth Choir, and they were amazing. The performers all appeared to be around 6-12 years old and sang songs such as “Amazing Grace” and “You Raise me Up”. A soloist sang “Ave Maria” and there were also a couple of instrumental solos.

Afterwards the only thing left to do was eat one final meal in Vienna. Since I had such a good dinner there last week, I returned to Pürstner, a couple of blocks away from Stephansplatz. This time I tried Schweinsfiletspitzen (sliced pork in a pepper cream sauce) with the same mouth-watering croquettes I had last time. The pepper sauce was just strong enough to give it a good kick of flavor. Of course, I needed apple strudel for my final dessert (with both ice cream and whipped cream, please!). It was so rich and dense and cinnamon-y… the best strudel I had in Austria!

My alarm is set, my bags are packed, and I’m ready to make the long journey home tomorrow. I’m staying at the NH Hotel right across from the airport tonight, and I have a view of the airport terminal and runway from my room, which is making me excited to hop on a plane tomorrow and go home!
